I joined SOVA as a Creative Technologies major because art and technology are two of my greatest passions, and I want to gain skills that will allow me to work in a field that involves both. I also intend to double major in Computer Science so that I can offer a range of creative and technical abilities. I am learning how to use many artistic and technical software applications such as Adobe Applications, Blender, Autodesk Fusion, Maya, ZBrush, and more that will help me build my expertise. Once I gain these software skills at Virginia Tech, I hope to go to graduate school or get a job involving work that aligns with my interests and continue building my knowledge. More specifically, I currently hope to go into video game design or animation, but I expect that I will work many other design jobs or freelance before landing my dream job. It would mean a lot to me to work in a job that is enjoyable and satisfies my lifestyle, so I search for the best opportunities for my career. I will be looking for internships or design jobs that will help me build my resume while in college and make relationships with people and companies that can boost me in my future endeavors. I hope that the variety of skills I attain while working towards my degrees will make me a valuable asset to potential employers.
Artist Bio
Jade Groener was born in 2003 in Richmond, Virginia to immigrant parents from Brazil and Germany. Her Japanese ethnicity but lack of Japanese culture in her upbringing has added to the blended aspects of her identity as an American woman. Her work typically examines perfecting the aesthetic beauty of fantastical environments, which varies from mythical realms to cyberpunk cities. She is currently working towards a BFA in Creative Technologies and BSA in Computer Science as a double majoring junior at Virginia Tech. Jade received the 2022 Outstanding Foundations Student Award her freshman year for her academic and creative excellence. She aspires to attend graduate school to pursue a career in video game design and development. Jade currently lives and studies in Blacksburg, Virginia.
